TAARA – Trafficking Awareness, Advocacy & Rehabilitation Advancement
OUR VISION “To build a world where no one is trafficked again”
TAARA offers the victims of sex trafficking a way out of their difficult circumstances and into a new, purposeful life. By aiding rescue efforts, providing empowering education, supporting self-sufficiency, and increasing awareness we empower victims to overcome, survive, and thrive, while working to build a world where no one is ever trafficked again.
OUR STORY
IT ALL STARTED IN 2020…
originally as IHC FOR HER and now TAARA or Trafficking Awareness, Advocacy & Rehabilitation Advancement, was born out of the urgent need to address the growing problem of sex trafficking during the COVID-19 pandemic. As the pandemic raged on, it became clear that sex trafficking was at an all-time high, with criminals taking advantage of the pandemic’s chaos and vulnerability. The United Nations reported that the COVID-19 pandemic had worsened human trafficking, and cases of online child sexual exploitation had surged worldwide.
Our team recognized the critical need to support survivors of sex trafficking after they were rescued and equip them with education, vocational skills and resources to successfully reintegrate into society. Simultaneously, we understood the necessity of educating our youth and community about the widespread issue of sex trafficking.
Currently TAARA focuses on three primary areas:
- Education & Vocational Skilling : Our program initially focused on providing basic education and vocational training to survivors in India, and has since expanded to include survivors in the USA. By bridging gaps in their education and preparing them for job opportunities, we empower survivors to achieve self-sufficiency and independence.
- Prevention & Awareness : We keep vulnerable youth safer and address the demand for sex trafficking through self-defense techniques and online and offline safety seminars. We create and present educational programs meant to inform and inspire teachers, caregivers, parents, and healthcare providers to recognize the signs of danger, and know how to stay safe.
- Advocating for Change : With strategic collaboration at the local and state level, we are advocating for legislation to support survivors and punish traffickers and hence drive systemic change towards our eventual goal- to create a world where all are free.
