EDUCATION & VOCATIONAL SKILLING - “A SECOND CHANCE AT LIFE.”
TAARA endeavors to help sex-trafficking survivors reclaim their lives and become part of society again. According to statistics, trafficking survivors who are unable to secure and maintain employment in order to achieve financial independence often go back into prostitution as their means of survival.
Uitlizing psychological evaluation reviews and academic assessments to gauge the survivors’ aptitude and readiness, a group of students are carefully selected and enrolled in TAARA’s Empowerment Program. Unlike other programs, we take an unique approach by meeting the survivor at their current academic level and inquiring about their desired career path both in India and here in the USA.
OUR INCLUSIVE SKILLING PROGRAM IN INDIA
TAARA’s Empowerment Program was launched in India in 2021 and continues to educate survivors of trafficking at shelter homes in Mumbai, Delhi and West Bengal. The program has garnered immense success and been warmly welcomed by survivors, local authorities, and the community. As a result, we aim to expand the program to include more survivors in various shelter homes throughout India.
Our program takes a two step approach, beginning with a foundational course which
focuses on literacy and numeracy skills, financial literacy, basic computer training, and written and conversational English proficiency. The survivors then move on to training in a vocation of their choice.
& BEYOND …
Initially focused on providing education and vocational training to survivors in India, we have since expanded to include sex trafficking survivors in the USA. By bridging gaps in their education and preparing them for job opportunities, we empower survivors to achieve self-sufficiency and independence.
